2022 Winter Olympic Branding and Communication

Inspired by the mountains.

Project Overview:

A student project tasked with finding the perfect host city for the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosting the Olympics is a tremendous honor and gives the country a chance to show the world their culture, traditions, and way of life. For this project, the goal was to choose the host city, expand and learn about cultural traditions, build universal communication standards for international guests, and understand environmental conditions and accommodations.

I chose Anchorage, Alaska as the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The winter landscape, travel accommodations, and rich cultural history are all part of why Anchorage would be the best spot for the next Winter Olympics!

Deliverables:

Logo Design

Pictograms

Ticket design

Environmental and apparel graphics

A completed branding & communication booklet

The logo for the games is inspired by the natural beauty of Anchorage’s location. The city is at the base of a mountain touching the sea, so the mountain with the wave-like line at the bottom is meant to represent that.

The northern lights are a huge part of Anchorage beauty and culture so the flowy lines above the mountain embody that while also illustrating an abstract skier or skater to portray the athletes at the Winter Games. The colors showcase the winter with cool blues and purples while also including the dark blue hue of the Alaskan flag.

Logo & Usage

Pictograms are an excellent way for visual exploration through icons. It’s a way for people from all around the world, no matter what language, can understand the information.
